Smart detection alarm settings include setting up a sensitivity, alarm delay and object size for person motion, vehicle motion or pet motion.

Applies to: Reolink cameras that support smart detection.

Before setting up, upgrade the Reolink App to the latest version and the device to the latest firmware version.

Step 1. Log in to your device on the Reolink App to access the Smart Detection page.

Note: The navigation path differs depending on the device connection.
For the standalone camera (left image) — tap the gear.png icon > Smart Detection;
For Reolink camera added to Home Hub/NVR (right image) — tap the gear.png icon next to the camera> Smart Detection.

Step 2. Tap Person, Vehicle or Animal to set the corresponding alarm settings.

Step 3. Tap Object Size to create object sizes.

  • Tap Minimum Object, then drag to adjust the size of the orange rectangle. If a moving object is smaller than this rectangle, it will not trigger the alarm.
  • Tap Maximum Object, then drag to adjust the size of the blue rectangle. If a moving object is larger than this rectangle, it will not trigger the alarm.
  • The size of the object and its placement are not important. You can only set up a minimum size or a maximum size, or set up both at the same time. If you draw both of them, make sure the Maximum Object (blue rectangle) is bigger than the Minimum Object (orange one).
  • If you want to redraw the minimum/maximum object, just tap the Trash Can icon and repeat the above operations.

Step 5. Setup Alarm Delay. Drag the slider to adjust the Alarm Delay time (0-8 seconds), during which the object could stay in the detection zone without triggering any alarm.

Step 8. Set up Non-Detection Zone. Tap paint and paint over the areas where you don't want the camera to detect motion. Tap erase to remove a painted area. If you would like to paint or erase all the areas at once, tap Paint All or Erase All. Then tap Save on the top right to save the setting.

Note: Make sure the areas you don't want to detect are fully covered by the painted area. (See the image on the right below.)

Note: For Duo PoE/WiFi cameras, set the detection zone separately for each lens. Select Camera 1 or Camera 2 to switch between the two lenses.

Common Cases for Detection Sensitivity

  • If you receive too many unwanted detection alerts, try lowering the sensitivity.
  • If the camera misses relevant objects, try increasing the sensitivity.
  • You can use the Schedule to apply different sensitivity levels at different times, if supported.

Note: Detection types and available sensitivity settings may vary depending on the camera model. Refer to Introduction to Reolink Smart Detection to learn more about detection types and supported models.

After configuring the detection settings, the next step is to configure the corresponding alarm and recording schedules. You can choose when and how the camera responds to detected objects, such as sending Push Notifications or Emails, activating the Light or Siren, or recording detected events, depending on the camera model.
