1. What Is Reolink Smart Detection

Reolink’s new IP cameras unite security and intelligence to tell the differences between the motion of a person, a vehicle, a pet, an animal, and other moving objects. The new cameras can tell real threats and greatly avoid the false alarms issue.

Users will get notified of the important events only and enjoy the convenience of customizing the motion alerts to essential events they truly care about. Based on advanced motion detection, the recorded videos can be filtered by human activities, moving cars, moving pets, moving animals, or other motion events, allowing users to find and replay the most important video footage with ease on the Reolink App/Client.

The pictures below show you how you can know if there is a moving person/pet/vehicle/animal captured by the camera.

Picture 1 (Left). The camera detects a moving person when you're previewing the camera on the Reolink App. You can see the running man icon on the top right, indicating a moving person.

Picture 2 (Right). You can find motion recordings of certain types, such as persons and pets. Recordings of the selected type will be presented above the timeline.

2. Advanced Smart Detection with Specific Identification

Below, you'll find an overview of the supported camera models for each detection type. Click on the detection type you're interested in for more details. For instructions on configuring Smart Detection and using it with features like recording, push notifications, and email alerts, check out this article: How to Set Up Smart Detection Alert.

  • Person Detection

    Applies to: All cameras.

Reolink's Person Detection uses advanced algorithms to identify human figures accurately, reducing false alarms from non-human movement. This precision ensures you receive relevant alerts about genuine security threats and can respond quickly to potential intrusions.

  • Vehicle Detection

Applies to: All cameras except E1 Indoor Series, FE Series.

Reolink's Vehicle Detection identifies and alerts you to cars, trucks, and other four-wheeled vehicles, but does not detect two-wheeled vehicles like bicycles or motorcycles. It minimizes false alarms by focusing on significant vehicular movement.

  • Pet/Animal Detection

How to check if your device supports Pet/Animal Detection?

Support for Pet/Animal Detection varies by device model, hardware version, and firmware version. Before using this feature, make sure both the device firmware and Reolink App/Client are updated to the latest version.

To verify support, check whether the Pet/Animal Detection option is available in the Reolink App or Client. If the option is not available after updating the firmware, your device or hardware version does not currently support this feature. Reolink may expand support through future firmware updates and new product releases.

Reolink's Pet/Animal Detection distinguishes between pets, wildlife, and other motion. It offers precise alerts for various animals, helping you monitor and protect your pets. Currently, supported animals include but are not limited to: cats, dogs, horses, sheep, cattle, bears, deer, badgers, pigs, foxes, raccoons, skunks, squirrels, otters, minks, wolves, bobcats, birds, chickens, geese, etc.

  • Visitor Detection

Applies to: All Reolink Video Doorbell Series cameras.

Visitor Detection alerts you when someone presses your video doorbell, integrating with your doorbell camera for real-time notifications and live video feeds. This feature enhances security by allowing you to see and communicate with visitors at your doorstep.

  • Package Detection

Applies to: Reolink Video Doorbell PoE/WiFi (white), Reolink Video Doorbell (Battery), Video Doorbell (2nd Gen).

Reolink's Package Detection recognizes and notifies you of package deliveries to your doorstep, helping to prevent theft and ensure you don’t miss any deliveries. It focuses on packages to reduce false alerts and provide accurate notifications.

  • Crying Sound Detection

Applies to: Do Reolink Cameras Support Audio Detection

This feature uses intelligent algorithms to detect baby cries and triggers actions like video recording and push/email notifications. When parents can't always be by their baby's side, cry detection offers a reliable way to stay informed without constantly checking footage, making caregiving more convenient.

  • Animal Recognition

Applies to: Reolink Go Ranger PT and KEEN Ranger PT.

While most cameras detect animals generally, the Reolink Go Ranger PT and KEEN Ranger PT can specifically identify stags, antlerless deer, and turkeys. As specialized hunting cameras, they provide detailed notifications in alerts or emails, specifying the exact type of animal detected.
