If your Reolink camera missing events from smart detection, it's crucial to investigate potential issues. Begin by checking settings, reviewing firmware updates, and ensuring proper configuration to optimize event capture and avoid overlooking critical incidents.

Applies to: Reolink cameras that support smart detection.

Symptoms for Reolink Camera Missing Events

1. If the camera fails to respond to person/vehicle/pet alarm events, such as not sending push/email alerts, not activating the siren, failing to generate alarm recordings, or not turning on spotlights when motion is detected, it suggests missed alarm events.

2. When reviewing recordings, if person/vehicle/pet events are only recorded as continuous footage or categorized under generic motion types like "any motion"/"others", but not specifically tagged as person/vehicle/pet events when filtering, it indicates a discrepancy in the detection and recording process.

Troubleshooting Steps for Reolink Camera not Detecting Motion

1. If you have a battery-powered camera, please make sure the PIR sensor is enabled first. Refer to this guide: How to Turn on/off the PIR Sensor

2. Make sure the installation angle and position of the camera are reasonable.

Try not to let the camera look vertically at the ground. Avoid complex environments such as places that are heavily blocked by trees. If this is unavoidable, it is recommended to set these areas as non-detection areas.

3. Please configure proper smart detection settings.

  • Check the sensitivity, object size, non-detection zone, and alarm delay (except for battery-powered cameras) settings. If you're unsure whether your settings are correct, try deleting the current settings and set smart detection sensitivity to maximum, to observe whether the camera can properly detect person, vehicles, and animal. Here is an article for reference: How to Configure PIR, Motion, and Smart Detection Settings
  • Choose the smart detection alert you want and configure a proper schedule. Check or uncheck person/vehicle/pet as needed. For example, if you want to receive a push notification from a person alarm, the push alert needs to be enabled and the "person" type in the push schedule needs to be checked; if you don’t want to receive a push notification from a vehicle alarm, don't check the "vehicle" type under the push schedule.
  • Please note: When the camera keeps running, the email alert interval is 5 minutes. Only when the camera is triggered again, you can receive the second email. And the push interval is 30 seconds. For battery-powered camera, if the battery level is low, the spotlight will not light up even when it detects motion.

4. If the camera misses alarms at night, please adjust the brightness. For plug-in cameras, you can also configure a fixed frame. Refer to:

If the problem still cannot be solved, please provide the following information and contact Support.

1. Describe the issue in brief. For example: how do you find the camera misses alarms from smart detection?

2. The troubleshooting you have done. Please take a picture of the location where you install this camera. And please provide a screenshot when you live view the camera.

3. If person/vehicle/pet events are incorrectly categorized as "any motion"/"others" or continuous recordings, utilize the Reolink Client to download the false recording with a clear resolution for further examination. Please refer to this guide: How to Download Recordings via Reolink Client
