Cloud video storage behavior in Reolink services is directly linked to your active cloud plan and the configured video history settings. When a cloud plan expires or changes, it affects both uploading capability and stored recordings. This article explains how cloud video storage time works and what happens when it and the cloud plan expire.
What Is Cloud Video Storage Time?
“Cloud Video Storage Time” refers to how long uploaded videos are stored in the Reolink cloud before being automatically deleted. It is generally tied to your subscribed cloud plan.
How Cloud Video Storage Time Works
Cloud Video Storage Time can be determined in one of two ways:
Option 1. Use the Default Storage Time of Your Cloud Plan
By default, the Cloud Video Storage Time automatically matches the retention period included in your subscription, which is the same as your subscribed plan.
If you change your cloud plan, the cloud video storage time is updated automatically:
- Upgrading your plan extends the cloud video storage time.
- Downgrading your plan shortens the cloud video storage time.
Examples
- A user subscribes to a 30-day cloud plan → Default storage duration is 30 days.
- A user upgrades from a 7-day plan to a 30-day cloud plan → storage duration automatically extends to 30 days.
Default rule:
Cloud Video Storage Time = Cloud Plan Retention Period(automatic synchronization)
Option 2. Customize the Storage Time
If needed, you can manually set a shorter Cloud Video Storage Time instead of using the default plan setting, as long as it does not exceed the maximum retention period supported by your cloud plan.
After adjusting, the new setting will replace the default plan-based rule and become the active retention rule for cloud video storage.
If you later change your cloud plan, your manually configured storage time will remain unchanged.
Examples
- A user subscribes to a 30-day cloud plan + Modifies storage time to 14 days → Videos are stored for 14 days.
- A user upgrades the cloud plan from a 7-day plan to a 30-day cloud plan + Modifies storage time to 14 days → Videos continue to be stored for 14 days.
Manual rule:
Manual Storage Time overrides the default cloud plan setting.
How to Check Your Cloud Video Storage Time
1. If You Already Have a Cloud Plan
You can view your current Cloud Video Storage Time on the Cloud Plan management page in the Reolink App (Left image) or through a web browser (Right image).
2. If You Haven't Subscribed Yet
When subscribing to a Reolink Cloud plan, you can select a plan based on the cloud video storage time that best suits your needs.

What Happens When Your Video Storage Time and Cloud Plan Expire
To ensure sufficient cloud storage space, cloud videos that exceed the storage duration will be automatically deleted over time. Therefore, back up important videos in advance.
If your cloud plan has expired, it will bring the following results.
- Uploading recordings to the cloud will not be available.
- Recordings in the basic plan will be erased according to the cloud video history time.
