When you attempt to add a Reolink device to VLC media player using RTSP or RTMP, it may fail, or the VLC broadcast of the Reolink device stream may not work.

Troubleshooting Steps for VLC Media Player Not Working

1. Check camera/NVR settings.

Make sure all port switches are turned on for Reolink device. Refer to How to Configure Reolink Ports Settings

2. Update to the latest firmware version.

3. Verify stream URL.

  • Check the URL format: Ensure that the stream URL is correctly formatted. Refer to Introduction to RTSP or Introduction to Real-Time Messaging Protocol (RTMP)
  • Correct IP address and port number: Make sure the IP address of the camera or NVR is correct and accessible from your network. And also verify that the correct port number is being used.
  • Username and password: Some streams require authentication. Double-check that you’re entering the correct username and password in the stream URL.
    Note: The camera's password should avoid special characters (such as /, @, :) in the RTSP URL.

4. Disable the Illegal Login Lockout.
