Smart Detection Sensitivity determines how closely a detected moving object must match the selected detection type, such as a person, vehicle, or pet.

Applies to: Reolink cameras that support smart detection.

The Sensitivity for smart detection is controlled by a slider, allowing you to set a value between 0 to 100. The higher the numerical value is, the more sensitive the smart detection will be. 

Check out the methods below to learn how to set up sensitivity for the smart detection of persons, vehicles, pets, and animals, depending on the camera model.

  • Via Reolink App

    Before setting up, upgrade the Reolink App to the latest version and the device to the latest firmware version.

    Step 1. Log in to your device on the Reolink App to access the Smart Detection page.

    Note: The navigation path differs depending on the device connection.
    For the standalone camera (left image) — tap the gear icon > Smart Detection; 
    For camera added to Home Hub/NVR (right image) — tap the gear icon next to the camera> Smart Detection

    Step 2. Select Person, Vehicle or Animal to set the corresponding alarm settings. Then drag the slider to adjust the sensitivity.

    Step 3. Tap Motion Detection to set its sensitivity and schedule. Drag the slider to adjust the sensitivity.

    Step 4. (Optional) Tap Add Sensitivity Schedule to set the period and sensitivity for motion detection. And tap Save. Then you can preview the configured sensitivity and schedule settings.

  • Via Reolink Client

    Before setting up, make sure you have downloaded the latest Reolink Client version on your PC. Log in to your device on the Reolink Client.

    1. For battery-powered cameras: 

    Step 1. Click the gear icon > Alarm Settings > Smart Detection > Sensitivity.

    Step 2. Drag the slider for Person, Vehicle or Animal, depending on certain models, to set the suitable sensitivity for the camera.

    2. For PoE and Plug-in cameras:

    Step 1. Click the gear icon > Smart Detection > Sensitivity.

    Step 2. Click Smart Detection and then drag the slider for Person, Vehicle or Animal, depending on certain models, to set the suitable sensitivity for the camera.

    Note: The navigation path slightly differs depending on the device connection. For the camera added to the Reolink NVR or Home Hub, click expand to expand the cameras. Then click the gear icon next to the camera > Smart Detection (or Alarm Settings > Smart Detection) > Sensitivity.

  • Via Reolink Web browser

    Applies to: All Reolink cameras except battery-powered cameras, Reolink E1, Reolink E1 Pro, and Reolink Lumus, and the add-on cameras in the NVR Kit. For details of the models that can be accessed via web browsers, refer to Which Reolink Devices Can Be Accessed via Web Browsers.

    Log in to your camera via a web browser, go to Device Settings > Alarm Settings > Sensitivity > Smart Detection to adjust the sensitivity for Person, Vehicle, or Pet.


    If the web interface of your camera is an old version, you can refer to the steps below. 

    Step 1. Log in to your camera via web browser and go to the Device Settings page. 

    Step 2. Go to Alarm >Motion>Sensitivity page.

    Step 3. Set the 4 time periods and corresponding sensitivity. Please do not forget to click OK to save the settings.

  • Via Reolink NVR (new UI)

    Applies to: RLN8-410 (hardware version NVR_NNT3NA78P / N7MB01 / N3MB01 / N2MB02 / H3MB18), RLN16-410 (hardware version NVR_NNT4NA716P / N6MB01 / H3MB18), RLN4E, RLN36, RLN12W, NVS4E, NVS8, NVS12W, NVS16, NVS36, RP-PN8, RP-PN16, RP-N64.

    Here is a video that will show you how to set smart detection via the NVR System.

    Step 1. Connect your Reolink NVR to a monitor via HDMI/VGA.

    Step 2. Log in to your Reolink NVR on the monitor. Right-click on the screen and then click the gearicon > Camera > Select the camera channel > Detection > Settings.

    Step 3. Drag the slider to adjust the sensitivity for each detection type.

    • Low: camera detects moving objects with a high-similarity appearance to Person/Vehicle/Animal.
    • Medium: camera detects moving objects with a medium-similarity appearance to Person/Vehicle/Animal.
    • High: camera detects moving objects with a low-similarity appearance to Person/Vehicle/Animal.

How to Choose the Sensitivity

  • If you receive too many unwanted detection alerts, try lowering the sensitivity.
  • If the camera misses relevant objects, try increasing the sensitivity.
  • You can use the Schedule to apply different sensitivity levels at different times, if supported.

Note: Detection types and available sensitivity settings may vary depending on the camera model.
