Applies to: All Reolink battery-powered Wi-Fi cameras

DNS helps the camera find and connect to online services. You can think of DNS as a phone book for the Internet.

When the DNS address shows as 0.0.0.0 in the Reolink App or Client, these cameras may not have received a usable DNS server from the Wi-Fi network. As a result, some Internet-dependent features may not work properly.

For example, a battery-powered camera may still be able to record videos to a microSD card, while local or remote live view, Push Notifications, and Email Alerts may not work if the camera cannot access the Internet.

Fix DNS Shows as 0.0.0.0 on Reolink Battery-powered Wi-Fi Camera

Step 1. Restart the Camera and Router

Restart both the camera and the router, then check the DNS address again.

  • For cameras with a built-in battery, power the camera off and on.
  • For cameras with a removable battery, including Argus, Argus 2, and Argus Pro, remove and reinsert the battery.

Refer to How to Power on/off Reolink Battery-powered Cameras for details.

Step 2. Connect the Camera Directly to the Main Router

If the camera is connected through a Wi-Fi extender, repeater, or mesh node, temporarily connect it directly to the main Wi-Fi router. Then check the DNS address again.

Note: This step helps determine whether the extender or other network equipment is affecting the camera's network connection.

Step 3. Connect the Camera to Another Wi-Fi Network

If possible, connect the camera to another Wi-Fi network and check the DNS address again.

  • If the DNS address becomes normal: The original router or network configuration may be causing the issue.
  • If the DNS address is still 0.0.0.0: Continue with the following steps.

Step 4. Check the Router's DNS and DHCP Settings

If the camera works normally on another Wi-Fi network but still shows DNS as 0.0.0.0 on your original network, log in to your router's management interface to check the router's network settings.

Make sure:

  • DHCP is enabled.
  • The router can assign valid network information to connected devices.
  • The router has a working Internet connection.
  • No firewall or network security setting is blocking the camera's Internet access.

If your router allows you to manually configure DNS, you can also try a public DNS server such as 8.8.8.8.

Note: Standalone Reolink battery-powered cameras do not support the same network configuration options as wired or standard Wi-Fi cameras. DNS and DHCP settings should be checked on the router rather than configured directly on the camera.

After changing the settings, restart the router and reconnect the camera to Wi-Fi to check if the DNS is normal.

Step 5. Reset the Camera

If the DNS address still shows as 0.0.0.0, reset the camera to its factory settings and set it up again.

For detailed reset instructions, refer to the reset guide for your camera model.

Note: Resetting the camera will erase its current settings. Make sure you are ready to set up the camera again before proceeding.
