If your security camera is stuck in night mode and won't switch to day mode automatically, vice versa, it may be a configuration issue or a hardware fault. This article discusses common causes and solutions to fix the problem.

Symptoms for CCTV Camera not Switching to Night Mode or Day Mode

The camera remains locked in either day or night mode, failing to automatically switch between the two based on lighting conditions.

How to Fix Security Camera Stuck in Night Mode or Day Mode

  • Set Day/Night mode to 'Auto': here is a link to help you How to Change the Day/Night Mode for Your Camera via Reolink Software

  • Set IR lights to 'Auto': please confirm the IR lights are set to 'Auto' and there is no extra ambient light How to Enable/Disable IR Lights for Reolink Cameras  (Note: If there is an external light source around the camera, then it could affect the camera's IR lights and day/night sensor working.)
  • Manually test: please manually switch 'Black&White' mode and 'Color' to see if the image color is changed. If it is changed, please set it back to 'Auto' to see if the camera switches to day/night mode automatically.
  • Switch 'Black&White' and 'Color' threshold
    • Supported cameras: all Reolink cameras except the battery-powered cameras, add-on cameras in the NVR kits, cameras with hardware version IPC_513/515/517, and Reolink Lumus. Please ensure that your cameras are able to be set.

      • If the camera does not auto-switch to night mode, adjust it to -26. If that doesn’t work, adjust it to -45.
      • If the camera does not auto-switch to day mode, adjust it to +26. If that doesn’t work, adjust it to +45.
    • Restore or reset the camera: if the camera still fails to switch to day/night mode, please restore it How to Restore Reolink Products or reset it How to Hard Reset Device by Pressing the Reset Button for the last attempt.
