My Reolink camera won't connect to 5GHz Wi-Fi but will connect to 2.4GHz, and vice versa. What should I do? This article discovers why this issue occurs and how to resolve it effectively.

Applies to:  Reolink cameras with 5/2.4 GHz Dual-Band Wi-Fi supported

Symptoms for Dual-band Wi-Fi Not Working

When using dual-band Wi-Fi, a camera is only able to connect to one of the frequency bands. For example, my camera may connect to the 2.4GHz band but not the 5GHz band or it may connect to the 5GHz bands but not the 2.4GHz band. This issue can lead to connectivity problems and limit the performance of the camera.

Troubleshooting Steps for Your Camera Only Connect One of the Dual-band Wi-Fi

1. The phone or computer can connect to the Wi-Fi of the corresponding band.

2. Ensure the supported camera and correct Wi-Fi/router configuration.

3. Ensure the 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi SSID and password.

Here is a link to help you know more about the Wi-Fi SSID:  Introduction to WiFi SSID

 1) Correct Wi-Fi SSID and password: Confirm that the Wi-Fi SSID & password are entered correctly, including capitalization, numbers, and special characters. If possible, use the "show password" option to see what you're typing.

 2) Distinguished by different SSIDs or passwords for the 2.4GHz and 5GHz:

Here’s an example of how to modify your Wi-Fi settings:

① Log in to your router's management interface using the router's IP address. (such as 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1) in your web browser and provide your username and password.
② Find the section for wireless settings to look for the SSID settings for both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks.

        For example,

        For the 2.4GHz band, set a unique SSID (e.g., 'MyNetwork_2.4') or a password (e.g., 'Password_2.4').
        For the 5GHz band, set a different SSID (e.g., 'MyNetwork_5') or password (e.g., 'Password_5').

Make sure to reboot your router if required after making these changes.

(For more detailed instructions, please contact the technical support of the router.)

4. Change the Wi-Fi channel.

Ensure the camera operates on a supported Wi-Fi channel, sometimes certain Wi-Fi channels may experience congestion from other networks, leading to slowdowns. Changing the channel can help reduce such interference, enhancing Wi-Fi stability and speed: Introduction to WiFi Frequency and WiFi Channel of Reolink Cameras

5. For cameras with an antenna, make sure that the antenna is installed correctly and tightly.

6. Move the cameras closer to the router.

Move the camera closer to the router to ensure a stronger and more stable Wi-Fi connection.

7. Try switching Wi-Fi networks from the camera's Wi-Fi settings page.

If you're stuck during camera initialization and failing to connect to a specific Wi-Fi frequency, it's recommended to first connect the camera to a working Wi-Fi frequency, then access the camera's Wi-Fi settings page to switch Wi-Fi networks.
