Continuous recording means that the cameras can record 24/7 without interruption, regardless of whether motion is detected. Reolink currently supports continuous recording in the following ways:

  1. microSD card
  2. Reolink NVR/Home Hub
  3. Local recording on PC
  4. FTP
  5. 3rd party software

1. microSD card

You can install a microSD card in the camera to store continuous recordings. The table below lists the models that support continuous recording to a microSD card.

Camera Type Model
Battery-powered Cameras

Reolink Altas PT Ultra,

Reolink TrackMix LTE Plus

PoE & Wi-Fi (plug-in) Cameras All Cameras except add-on cameras, like B400/D500/V800... and camera with hardware version 3816.

You may be wondering how to choose the right SD card, how many days of continuous recording can be saved, and how to set up continuous recording. Refer to the article below for more information.

2. Reolink NVR/Home Hub

In addition to centralized camera management, Reolink NVR and Home Hub are local storage devices, supporting large local storage options. To enable continuous recording on the Reolink NVR/Home Hub, you need to confirm a few compatibility requirements first.

  1. The camera support continuous recording.
  2. The camera must be compatible with the NVR/Home Hub.

Notes:

1. When connected to Reolink NVR and Home Hub, only cameras that support continuous recording can be set up for this feature. Most battery-powered cameras do not have continuous recording capability, so even when connected to the NVR and Home Hub, they can only store alarm recordings.

2. The Reolink Altas PT Ultra currently does not support continuous recording on the Home Hub Pro and NVR. A firmware update for the Home Hub Pro and NVR is required for support. The development team is actively working on this currently.

You may be curious about how long the NVR and Home Hub can store recordings and how to configure continuous recording:

3. Local Recording to PC through Reolink Client

By installing the Reolink client on your computer, you can configure a continuous recording schedule in the local settings interface. Please note the following:

  1. Battery-powered cameras do not support local recording through the client.

  2. Reolink Client needs to run continuously for this to work.

4. FTP Continuous Recording

You can configure your Reolink device to continuously record and upload footage to an FTP server. This enables remote storage of recordings, keeping your video data safe and accessible from anywhere. To use this feature, your Reolink device must support FTP, and you need to have an FTP server set up, along with the proper configuration.

5. 3rd Party Software

Some Reolink devices support RTSP/ONVIF protocols, allowing them to be added to third-party software for configuring continuous recording. Known third-party software with good compatibility includes Blue Iris and Synology. The following article lists which models support RTSP/ONVIF protocols and explains how to add them to third-party software.
