Symptoms for Reolink FTP Error

When you encounter an "FTP test failed, error code is 450/451/452/453/454/455/456/457," it indicates that the test for connecting to the FTP server was unsuccessful. Error code 451 typically signifies that the server is experiencing temporary issues, such as a temporary problem with the server or a configuration error that prevents the connection.

Troubleshooting for Failed FTP

1. "Save" before clicking on "Test": Have you clicked on "Save" before clicking on "Test" in the FTP settings? Sometimes, for certain firmware versions, it's necessary to save the settings first before testing.

2. Correct Related-FTP settings:

  • FTP Server:  Please make sure the FTP Server is input correctly. In the FTP server field, enter only the domain name or pure IP without any prefixes or suffixes. For example, it should be something like "192.168.1.100" or "nas.yourdomain.com", not "ftp://192.168.1.100" or "192.168.1.100:21".
  • FTP Port: Usually, the default port is 21. Please note that Reolink devices don't support SFTP, so ports 990 and 22 are not compatible.
  • Upload directory: Multiple levels can be separated by "/", but avoid placing "/" at the beginning or end of the path. Also, make sure not to use "\" in the directory path.

3. Permitted Upload: Please ensure the user account and path have permission to upload, download, delete, etc. For example: please log in to the same FTP account on the FileZilla client to ensure they can manually upload pictures/video files to the same path the camera sets. If it doesn't work, please change the permission for the FTP account.

4. Upgrade to the latest firmware version: Here is a link to help you Reolink Firmware Update Guide

After doing the above steps, various error codes have different solutions, please choose the solution to do the further test according to your error code.

  • Error Code 451
    • Non-Limited Server Account: The FTP server account being used has not reached the active user limit. Please create a new FTP account with read and write permissions, and added to the camera to verify. If you failed to do it, it should be limited, please check the FTP server account settings.
    • Modify the Camera’s IP Address: If the IP is blacked out by the FTP server, it is recommended that the customer change DHCP to Static and modify the last digit of the IP address, such as 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.0.3. Be careful not to duplicate it with other devices in the LAN.
  • Error Code 452/456/457
    • Switch Active/Passive Mode.
    • Disable the IPv6 configuration: If the FTP server is configured with IPv6, please disable it.
  • Error Code 453/454
    • Non-Limited Server Account: The FTP server account being used has not reached the active user limit. Please create a new FTP account with read and write permissions, and added to the camera to verify. If you failed to do it, it should be limited, please check the FTP server account settings.

    • Disable the IPv6 configuration: If the FTP server is configured with IPv6, please disable it.
