If you're encountering issues while scanning the QR code to do the initial setup for your Reolink WiFi cameras on the Reolink App/Client, this article will provide some troubleshooting suggestions to overcome this challenge.

Applies to: All Reolink WiFi Cameras including battery-powered and DC-powered cameras.

Symptoms for Reolink Camera not Scanning QR Code

If your camera emits "ding ding" sounds or cycles through the message "Please run Reolink App, and set it up" in five languages after powering on, but you don't hear a "beep" sound when attempting to scan the QR code on the Reolink App/Client.

How to Fix the Camera Won't Scan QR Code

  1. Remove the protective film: Please make sure that the camera lens is not blocked by any protective film. Sometimes, a thin protective film on the lens can interfere with scanning the QR code.
  2. Increase the phone brightness: Try increasing the brightness of your phone screen. It's best to do this indoors. Also, try enlarging the QR code on your phone screen before scanning. On iPhone, when a barcode appears on-screen for scanning, iPhone's brightness will dim. This is normal and will not affect the scanning of Wi-Fi QR code.
  3. At the same height: When scanning, ensure that your phone screen and the camera lens are at the same height, with a distance of about 20 cm (8 inches) between them.
  4. Test different phones or computers: Try using a different phone or computer to set up the camera. This can help us determine if the issue is with your current device or the camera itself.
  5. Test different networks: Switch to a different mobile hotspot or another router's Wi-Fi connection:
    • If switching to a different hotspot or Wi-Fi connection allows successful QR code scanning and configuration, the issue may be related to the original router's Wi-Fi configuration. Users are advised to check the router settings.
    • If switching to a different hotspot or Wi-Fi connection still does not allow QR code scanning or recognition by the phone/client, contact Support to provide further guidance.
  6. Wired connection: For cameras with an Ethernet port, such as the E1 series, Trackmix WiFi, Doorbell WiFi, or FE-W, try connecting them directly to the router with a network cable before configuring Wi-Fi. Refer to How to Initially Set up WiFi Cameras via Reolink App (With LAN Port and Voice Prompt under the "2. With a Network Cable Connection" section.

If you have tried the steps above but still encountered the following symptoms, this indicates that the camera has not successfully scanned the Wi-Fi QR code and remains in the initial setup state.

1. Camera continues to announce the welcome message or emit a dinging sound (Note: The camera's voice cannot be turned off or lowered, and it does not support selecting other languages or sound playback options).

2. The red light on the battery-powered camera and the blue flashing status light on the E1 series.

In this situation, resetting the camera is not necessary. Please provide a complete video demonstrating how you attempt to make the camera scan the QR code, and contact the Reolink Support team for further assistance or warranty.
