Reolink NVRs allows you to create or change the login password for the cameras. This article will show you how to configure user settings via Reolink NVRs. Please refer to the following steps.

Applies to: All Reolink NVRs (new UI)

This article will cover the following sections:

1. Switching Camera from Old NVR to New NVR

2. Basic Operation of Camera Password Setting on NVR

Before diving into the details of this feature, please note the following two points:

1. When a camera and NVR are on the same local network (not necessarily directly connected), and the Auto Add function on the NVR is enabled, a brand new camera powered on will be immediately detected by the NVR and assigned a random password.

2. For battery-powered cameras, you cannot set a password after connecting to the NVR.

1. Switching Camera from Old NVR to New NVR

If you haven't changed the camera's password but need to replace the NVR and connect the camera to a new one, the steps will vary depending on the NVR hardware and firmware versions. Here's an example: we’ll refer to the first NVR as NVR1 and the second NVR as NVR2.

Scenario 1: Both NVRs are using N7MB01/N6MB01/N5MB01 with latest firmware version 3.5.1 in the download center.

If both NVR1 and NVR2 have hardware and firmware versions mentioned above, simply disconnecting the camera from NVR1 and connecting it to NVR2 will trigger a "device is abnormal status" message. You can follow the on-screen instructions to restore the camera, and once the restoration is complete, the camera will be ready for preview on NVR2. All operations can be performed directly on the NVR2 monitor. Below are the specific steps:

Step 1. In the Preview or Channel Management interface, you will see the camera displaying the "device is abnormal" status. Click Learn More.

Step 2. A message will pop up saying, "This camera is being connected to a new NVR. Please reset the camera before using it with this NVR." Click Restore.

Step 3. The camera will briefly display "connection failed." After a while, the camera's preview interface will appear.

Scenario 2: Either NVR1 or NVR2 does not match the hardware N7MB01/N6MB01/N5MB01 with latest firmware version 3.5.1

If either NVR1 or NVR2 does not match the hardware and firmware version mentioned above—for example, if NVR1 is an RLN8-410 (N7MB01) running firmware version v3.5.0, while NVR2 is an RLN8-410 (N7MB01) with firmware version v3.5.1—you will need to enter the password previously set on the old NVR. If you are unable to retrieve the password, there are only two options:

  1. Reconnect the camera to the NVR1 to retrieve the password, then enter it into the NVR2 to add the camera.
  2. If you no longer have access to the NVR1, the only option is to perform a hard reset on the camera.

2. Basic Operation of Camera Password Setting on NVR

Part 1. Create a Password of the Camera

Step 1. Log in to the NVR on a monitor, then go to Settings > Camera > General and select the channel (camera) that you want to configure. Click Create Password.

click NVR settings

create a password

Step 2. Before you create the password, you need to verify the super administrative rights of the NVR.

Step 3. Then you can create a login password for the camera.

Notes:

  • The NVR will only assign a password to an IP Camera that does not have configured (the password is not visible). If you do not set a password for the camera on the NVR, it will show a password error when used standalone.
  • Once the IP camera is configured with a password and connected to the NVR, the camera retains its original password. The NVR does not assign a new password to the camera. This means that even if the camera is deleted from the NVR, you can still use the camera as a standalone device with its original password.

Part 2. Check the Password of the Camera

Step 1. Click Change Password.

Step 2. Click the Eye icon to check the camera's login password. Note that you will have to enter the NVR's login password to verify your identity first.

Part 3. Change the Password of the Camera

If you want to change the camera's login password, click Change Password. Verify your identity by entering the NVR's login password first. Create a new password for the camera, confirm the password and click Next.

Done! Now the camera is secured with a login password.
