Symptoms for Reolink Auto Tracking Not working

1. The Reolink camera is not tracking at all.

2. The camera can track targets but stops midway, ceasing to track.

Troubleshooting Steps for Reolink Camera not Tracking

Step 1. Camera correctly identifies person/vehicle/animal and the hardware structure is functioning normally.

1. To determine if the camera accurately detects person/vehicle/animal, follow the steps below. If the recording is not tagged, it indicates that the camera did not correctly detect the target. Please refer to this article for a detailed examination of your alert settings: Reolink Camera Misses Motion from Smart Detection.

  • Enable the Motion Mark feature and observe if the objects are detected correctly: How to Set up Motion Mark for Reolink Cameras.
  • Check the SD card/HDD playback page to see if the recordings are tagged as person/vehicle/animal.

2. The camera can pan and tilt (PT). Ensure that the camera’s motors are functioning properly. Manually control the PTZ features to check if the camera rotates smoothly: How to Use Reolink Pan/Tilt/Zoom Function

Step 2. Ensure that the Reolink Auto Tracking settings are configured correctly.

1. Ensure Reolink camera tracking settings are configured correctly: How to Set up Auto Tracking for Reolink Cameras via Reolink App.

  • Tracking switch: Enabled
  • Tracking types: All relevant types are selected (e.g., if camera is not tracking person, ensure the corresponding detection type is selected)
  • Tracking range, tracking schedule, tracking method, and stop tracking time meet the requirements. Refer to the table below for configuration:
    Tracking Range Delete
    Tracking schedule 7*24H
    Stop tracking time Maximum

2. Confirm that the camera was not manually operated (e.g., PTZ adjustments, focus changes, returning to preset points/monitor point) before tracking. After these operations, wait 15 seconds before the camera resumes tracking. Additionally, modifying the tracking mode, tracking type, or mirroring during tracking will stop the current tracking.

3. Ensure the camera’s installation angle and position are appropriate.

  • Try not to let the camera look vertically to the ground.
  • Avoid complex environments such as places that are heavily blocked by trees. If this is unavoidable, it is recommended to set these areas as non-detection areas.

4. Upgrade the camera firmware to the latest version available on the official website: Download Center – Reolink . If the camera is used with a Reolink NVR, also update the NVR to the latest version to avoid compatibility issues that could affect tracking functionality.
