3. Step-by-Step to Upgrade the Firmware Manually
4. If the Firmware Upgrade Fails
Before You Start
Before manually upgrading the firmware, prepare the following:
- A supported Reolink 4G camera with sufficient power.
- A compatible 16GB or 32 GB microSD card and microSD card reader.
- A computer for preparing the microSD card.
- The firmware file provided by Reolink Technical Support.
Get the Firmware File
The firmware file must match your camera model and hardware version.
Before contacting Reolink Technical Support, check your camera's System Information. Refer to How to Find out Reolink Device System Information and provide the following information to Reolink Technical Support:
- Camera model
- Hardware Version
- Firmware Version
Reolink Technical Support will check your camera information and provide the appropriate firmware file if manual firmware upgrading is supported.
Note: Do not use a firmware file intended for another camera model or hardware version. Using an incorrect firmware file may cause the upgrade to fail.
Step-by-Step to Upgrade the Firmware Manually
Step 1. Prepare the microSD Card
- Insert the microSD card into the microSD card reader.
- Insert the microSD card reader into your computer.
- Format the microSD card as FAT32. Refer to How to Format a microSD card on PC.
-
Create a folder named upgrade in the root directory of the microSD card. It should look like this.
- Copy the firmware file provided by Reolink Technical Support into the upgrade folder.
The folder structure should look like this:
microSD card
└── upgrade
└── firmware.pak
Note: Do not rename or modify the firmware file unless instructed by Reolink Technical Support.
Step 2. Reset the Camera Before Upgrading
Before starting the firmware upgrade, insert the microSD card with the firmware.pak into the camera and reset the camera with a pinhole or button based on your camera’s reset design.
Note: Depending on the camera model and hardware version, the reset method may vary. Select one of the following guides based on your camera model to reset it step-by-step:
Reset Go PT Series and Ranger PT Series: How to Reset Reolink Go PT Series and Ranger PT Series.
Reset TrackMix LTE Series: How to Reset TrackMix Series Cameras.
Reset Go Plus/Go Ultra: How to Reset Reolink Go/Go Plus/Go Ultra
Step 3. Start the Firmware Upgrade
After resetting, you will hear a short notification sound indicating that the firmware upgrade is about to enter the upgrading process if a firmware file is detected on the microSD card. This sound is different from the reset sound. The upgrade process consists of four steps shown in the table below. Follow the steps in order and wait for the camera to complete each step.
During the upgrade, pay attention to the camera's LED status and voice prompts. They indicate the current stage of the upgrade and let you know when the upgrade is complete.
Note: Do not power off the camera, remove the microSD card, or interrupt the upgrade process while the firmware is being upgraded.
| Process | Camera Status | What to Do |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Upgrade starts | Red and blue LEDs flash. The camera prompts "Upgrading, please do not power off" twice. |
Do not power off the camera. |
| 2. Upgrade in progress | Red and blue LEDs continue flashing. | Wait for the upgrade to complete. It normally takes about 1–2 minutes. |
| 3. Upgrade succeeds | Red and blue LEDs become solid. The camera prompts "Upgrade succeeded". |
The firmware upgrade is complete. Proceed to Step 4. |
| 4. Restart | — | Turn off the camera and then turn it back on to restart it and check if the firmware (version) has been upgraded. |
Note: For Process 4, the power-on/off method varies depending on the camera model. Refer to How to Power on/off Reolink Battery-powered Cameras to power the camera on and off correctly.
Step 4. Remove the microSD Card
After confirming the firmware has been upgraded, remove the microSD card from the camera to delete the upgrade file on the PC or format the SD card. This will prevent the camera from entering the upgrade process again when it is reset to its factory default settings.
After deleting or formatting, insert the microSD card into the camera again to return to normal operation.
If the Firmware Upgrade Fails
If the red and blue LEDs do not become solid after 5 minutes, the firmware upgrade has failed. Try the firmware upgrade process again from the beginning.
Before trying again, make sure that:
- The firmware file matches your camera model and hardware version.
- The firmware file is placed in the upgrade folder.
- The microSD card is prepared correctly.
- The camera has sufficient power.
- The firmware file has not been renamed or modified.
If the upgrade continues to fail, click “Submit a request” below to contact Reolink Technical Support and provide your camera model, Hardware Version, Firmware Version, and a description of what happens during the upgrade.
