What Is Pre-motion Recording?

The pre-motion recording is when the camera will start to record before the event happens, and the pre-recording will last several secs according to different models and hardware versions. This helps users capture a more complete view of the scene.

Which Recording Methods Support Pre-motion Record?

Pre-motion recording is supported when using the following storage methods:

  • SD Card, Reolink NVR, Reolink Home Hub, FTP

These methods allow the camera to save footage from a few seconds before the actual motion event occurs, helping to capture a more complete picture.

Notes:

  • Battery-powered cameras (excluding the Reolink Altas series) only support pre-motion recording when the live view is active.

  • FTP pre-motion record depends on network conditions. If the network is stable and fast enough, the camera may successfully include pre-recorded footage in the uploaded files. Otherwise, pre-motion frames may be lost.

How to Configure Pre-motion Recording on SD Card / HDD

The table below outlines whether different camera models support pre-motion recording to local storage (SD card or HDD), and whether this feature can be configured.
