Surveillance Rules allow you to customize alarm behaviors and automate responses for your Reolink camera system, helping ensure timely alerts and recordings during specific time periods. This article will explain how to configure them using both the App and the NVR monitor.

Step 1. Access the Surveillance Rules Configuration Interface

Tap Camera Settings > Surveillance Rule, tap Add or the “+” icon in the top right corner.

Step 2. Configure the Surveillance Rule

1. Name: Give this rule a name.

2. Rule Type: Two options are available: Motion Alarm or Scheduled Execution.

Motion Alarm: The rule will trigger only when an alarm event is detected.

  • Add Time Period: Specify the time period when the rule is active. You can choose to repeat every day or select specific days of the week.

  • Add Detection Type: Select the type(s) of alarm to detect.

Note: Line Crossing Alert, Zone Intrusion Alert, Zone Loitering Alert, Object Removal, and Forgotten Object must be configured in the detection alarm settings before they appear as options here.

Scheduled Execution: The camera will continuously record to the SD card or upload to FTP.

  • Add Time Period: Define the time period when this execution will run.

  • Perform the Following Actions: Choose either Record or Upload to FTP or select both if you want the camera to do both actions.

3. When finished, tap Save in the top right corner. As shown in the first image, two surveillance rules have been created: Events (Motion Alarm), Timer (Scheduled Execution).

  • To add more rules, tap the + icon in the top right corner and repeat the setup steps.

  • To disable a rule, toggle the switch off.

  • To edit or delete a rule, tap the rule to enter the editing page, then tap Delete Rule at the bottom.

Note: If you are setting up FTP or Email, you also need to go back to the Camera Settings page and configure the FTP or Email settings.

Via Reolink NVR (Monitor)

Preparation: Connect a TV/Monitor to the NVR via HDMI/VGA cable.

Step 1. Access the Surveillance Rules Configuration Interface

Go to camera Surveillance Rules > add New Rule.

Note: The Surveillance Rules setting is only available when Professional Series cameras are connected to a Professional Series NVR.

Step 2. Configure the Surveillance Rule

  1. Add Rule: name the rule
  2. Within the Alarm Schedule: define an alarm schedule: Set the active time period and choose whether to repeat it daily or on specific days of the week.
  3. When detecting: select the alarm that you want the camera to detect.
  4. Perform the following actions: choose the desired actions
    • Trigger Alarm Output (if available)
    • Activate Camera Siren

Step 3. Configure Additional Alarm Responses

To enable other alarm responses such as camera recording, push notifications, email alerts, or FTP uploads:

  1. Go to Surveillance, enable the corresponding alarm and go to its Alarm Daily Schedule.
  2. Select the camera and the detection type that you want the camera to detect.
  3. Click Enable/Disable below the table, then click and drag on the grid (one stands for an hour) to enable/disable alarm recording at that hour. Blue means recording enabled and grey means disabled.
