Forgetting the password to your Reolink NVR can be frustrating, but don’t worry—there are multiple ways to recover or reset it depending on your situation. This guide will walk you through four different methods to regain access to your NVR.

Method 1: Password Security Question

Requirements:

  • You must have set a security question beforehand.
  • This method requires access to the NVR via a connected monitor using an HDMI or VGA cable.

Steps:

  1. On the NVR monitor, click “Forgot password”.forget password

  2. Click “Verify” on "Reset password via password recovery questions" when prompted.verify security question

  3. Your previously set security question will appear. Enter the correct answer to proceed.

  4. If answered correctly, you’ll be allowed to reset your password. Enter a new password, click Confirm, and you’ll regain access to your NVR.reset password

Method 2: Recovery Email

Requirements:

  • You must have set a recovery email beforehand.
  • This method requires access to the NVR via a connected monitor using an HDMI or VGA cable.
  • Applies to: RLN8-410(N7MB01), RLN16-410(N6MB01), RLN36, NVS8 only

Steps:

  1. On the NVR monitor, click “Forgot password”.forget password

  2. Click “Verify” on "Reset password via email".verify reset password by email

  3. A message will appear indicating that a verification code has been sent to the email address you previously set.authenticator code.png

  4. Check your email for the code and enter it into the prompt. Click Confirm, you can reset your password. Enter a new password, click Confirm, and you’ll regain access to your NVR.

Method 3: Restore via Software

Requirements:

You must still be able to access the NVR via another device, such as the Reolink App, PC Client, or web browser.

Steps:

  1. Go to NVR Settings > Advanced (in Phone App), or System Maintenance (in PC Client or Web).
  2. Tap or click Restore to reset the NVR. Once completed, the NVR will appear as an uninitialized device.
  3. Re-initialize the NVR and create a new password during setup.

Method 4: Hard Reset the NVR

Requirements:

Use this method if the NVR is completely inaccessible by any device.

Steps:

  1. Locate the reset button on the NVR (the location may vary by model, click your NVR model below to expand and view details).

  2. Press and hold the reset button for 10 seconds until you hear the buzzing “bee”. (To verify a successful reset, listen for a "bee" sound. If you don’t hear the "bee" sound, ensure you're pressing the correct reset button and that the NVR is powered on with the green power indicator light lit on)

  3. The NVR will reset to factory settings, and you can set a new password during re-initialization. After the reset, you can complete the NVR's initial configuration using the mobile App, computer Client, or the NVR monitor.

  • RLN8-410/RLN16-410/RLN36/NVS8/NVS16/NVS36

    Step 1. Power off the NVR. Then use a screwdriver to remove the outer case of the NVR.

    Step 2. Power on the NVR. Press the Reset button for 10 seconds until you hear the buzzing “bee”.

  • RLN12W/NVS12

    Make sure that the NVR is powered on, find the reset button on the back of the NVR, then keep pressing the reset button until you hear the buzzing “bee”.
