This article will guide you through the steps to ensure that your device can only be accessed from the local network (LAN) and not from the external network (WAN). The main methods for achieving this are based on whether the device has a UID switch or not.
- For power-supplied cameras (non-battery), NVRs, and Home Hub systems, refer to the section: Disabling UID on Reolink Devices to Restrict Remote Access
- For battery-powered cameras, refer to the section: Configuring Reolink Devices Without UID to Restrict Remote Access
Disabling UID on Reolink Devices to Restrict Remote Access
For devices such as power-supplied cameras (non-battery), NVRs, and Home Hub systems that have a UID switch, you can directly disable the UID through the software. Please choose the appropriate software based on the device you are using. The most common method for disabling the UID is through the Reolink Client, and the following provides guidance for doing so.
Note: This setting is not supported in the Reolink App. For other software, refer to How to Disable UID for Reolink Products.
Go to Device Settings > Network > Advanced page and choose to disable UID.
Configuring Reolink Devices Without UID to Restrict Remote Access
For devices without a built-in UID switch, such as battery-powered Wi-Fi cameras, you can achieve similar results by configuring your router settings. Since router configurations vary, it’s recommended to consult your router’s support team for assistance. Below are two effective methods:
-
Restrict the Camera’s IP Address
- Block the camera’s IP address from accessing the internet.
- To prevent the settings from becoming ineffective if the camera’s IP address changes, it is also necessary to bind the IP address and MAC address together.
-
Block the Camera’s MAC Address
- Restrict access to the internet by blocking the camera’s MAC address. This ensures that even if the IP address changes, internet access remains restricted.
For battery-powered 4G cameras, which connect via a SIM card, there is no distinction between internal and external networks. If you wish to only use the camera for recording without remote access, simply do not install a SIM card.
By following these steps, you can secure your device’s access and ensure it is only available within your local network, providing an extra layer of protection for your privacy and security. If you need further assistance, don’t hesitate to reach out to our support team.
