If you are wondering how to use a Wi-Fi extender or specifically how to use the Reolink Wi-Fi Extender RLA-WE1, this guide will walk you through management and key features. A Wi-Fi extender helps improve signal strength and expand wireless coverage, ensuring your Reolink cameras and devices stay connected reliably.

Manage Your Reolink Wi-Fi Extender via RLN12W Monitor

When the Reolink Wi-Fi Extender is added to the RLN12W NVR, all settings must be managed on the monitor (not the App).

1. Check Device Information

Go to Settings > Info to:

  1. Rename the repeater.
  2. View device details such as IP address, MAC address, status, hardware and firmware versions.
  3. Perform a local firmware update by selecting Local Update.

2. Select Network Mode

Choose between:

  • Mesh Mode (Recommended): The repeater and the NVR form one seamless Wi-Fi network, sharing the same SSID (Wi-Fi name).
  • Repeater Mode: Creates a separate Wi-Fi network with its own SSID and password. Cameras must be reconnected manually.

Note: When switching modes, cameras already connected to the extender will disconnect and require reconfiguration.

Manage Your Reolink Wi-Fi Extender via Reolink App

When used independently, you can manage the Reolink Wi-Fi Extender directly through the Reolink App.

Note: If your Wi-Fi extender has already been added to RLN12W, all settings must be managed on the NVR monitor. App management will be unavailable in this case.

1. Enable or Disable Dual-Band Adaptivity

Dual-band adaptivity determines how 2.4GHz and 5GHz signals are handled:

  • Enabled: Both bands merge into one Wi-Fi network.
  • Disabled: Separate 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks are created.

Steps:

  1. Power on the extender and open the Reolink App.
  2. On the Home page, tap [Your Extender] > Extended Wi-Fi Management.
  3. Toggle Dual-Band Adaptivity on or off.

2. Select Repeater or AP Mode

  • Repeater Mode: Extends Wi-Fi coverage wirelessly by amplifying the existing network, making it suitable for areas without wired connections.
  • AP Mode: Creates a new Wi-Fi hotspot when connected to the router via a network cable, ideal for locations with wired connections.

This flexibility allows you to decide how to use a Wi-Fi extender based on your setup.

3. Change Extended Wi-Fi Name/Password

Pre-Setup Notice

  3. Enter a new SSID and password.
