After setting up your Reolink Wi-Fi Extender RLA-WE1, you may wonder what the extender settings displayed on the RLN12W monitor or App mean and how to use them. This guide will introduce you to the key features of the extender and how to make the most of its capabilities for seamless connectivity.
Reolink RLN12W Monitor
1. Info Checking
Click Settings > Info, you can:
-
Change Repeater's Name.
-
View Repeater Information: Check the repeater's IP, MAC address, status, hardware and firmware version.
-
Local Firmware Update: Click Local Update to perform a local firmware upgrade for the repeater.
2. Network Mode Selected
Mesh Mode: The repeater and the NVR form a wireless network, sharing the same Wi-Fi name.
Repeater Mode: The repeater will create its own Wi-Fi name and password. You need to manually connect the camera to its Wi-Fi network.
Note: If the camera is connected to the Extender Network, switching modes will cause the camera to disconnect. You will need to reconfigure the Wi-Fi for the camera afterward. Please keep this in mind before switching modes.
Switching to Repeater Mode, you can see the 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi SSID and passwords of your Wi-Fi extender. Click “eye” icon to view the password, or click "settings" icon to change the names and passwords for the 2.4GHz and 5GHz extended networks.
Note: When Reolink Wi-Fi extender is added to RLN12W, the Wi-Fi extender can only be managed on the monitor, and cannot be managed or operated through the Reolink App.
Reolink App
1. Dual-Band Adaptivity Enable/Disable
Enabling dual-band adaptivity allows the extended Wi-Fi to combine both 2.4GHz and 5GHz into a single Wi-Fi network. Disabling this feature will create two separate extended Wi-Fi networks—one for 2.4GHz and another for 5GHz—allowing users to set them up independently.
Step 1. Power on the extender and launch the Reolink App.
Step 2. Tap IoT, then tap your extender, and tap Extended Wi-Fi Management.
Step 3. Enable/disable Dual-Band Adaptivity as you need.
2. Repeater Mode VS AP Mode
The Reolink Wi-Fi extender RLA-WE1 offers two modes to help you address your needs. You can choose the mode that suits you best.
Repeater Mode: In Repeater mode, the Wi-Fi extender receives and amplifies the existing Wi-Fi signal, extending the signal coverage. This mode is ideal for wirelessly expanding the coverage of an existing Wi-Fi network and is suitable for areas without wired connections.
AP Mode : In AP mode, the Wi-Fi extender acts as an independent Wi-Fi hotspot, connected to the router via a wired connection. This mode is suitable for expanding Wi-Fi coverage with a wired connection.
3. Change Name/Password of the Extended Wi-Fi Network
Follow the instructions below to change the name/password of the extended Wi-Fi network to your preference.
Note: After making changes, you'll need to reconnect your devices to the Wi-Fi. To simplify this process, ensure your devices are connected to another network beforehand. This will make it easier to reconnect your devices later.
Step 1. Make sure the extender is powered on and launch the Reolink App. Tap IoT button, and select the extender, then tap Extended Wi-Fi Management button to enter the next page.
Step 2. Change the name/password of Extended Wi-Fi. Tap Save, then tap Confirm.
Step 3. Wait for the extender to become accessible again. Tap on the extender, and you should see that its name/password has been changed.
