You may need to connect the Reolink NVR with a PoE switch to connect cameras. Here we will outline some key considerations.

Applies to: All Reolink PoE cameras and NVRs.

The answer is Yes. You can add a PoE switch between Reolink cameras and the Reolink NVR.

For RLN12W and RLN36, you can connect a PoE switch to power the PoE cameras. But the connection in this way is not recommended for RLN8-410 and RLN16-410. If you have to connect in this way because of the inconvenience of hooking multiple wires in the scenes like between two buildings, please make sure you connect 8 cameras at most with the PoE switch and then attach the switch to the Reolink PoE NVR.

Connection of NVR and switch

Note:

1. You can connect at most 4 PoE switches to the RLN36, and you can connect 36 cameras in total. However, to avoid the overload of the switch, do not connect all cameras to one switch.

2. Please make sure you do not connect the LAN port of the Reolink NVR and that of the PoE switch to the router at the same time. Otherwise, the camera may experience frequent disconnection issues. To learn how to connect the PoE switch, Reolink NVR and Reolink cameras, please refer to How to Connect PoE Switch, Router and Reolink NVRs.
