To save storage space and prevent data loss, follow the steps below to cut and back up video recordings using Reolink NVRs:

Applies to: RLN8-410, NVS8, RLN16-410, NVS16, RLN12W, NVS12W, RLN36, NVS36

Note: Reolink NVRs have two kinds of user interface. You can confirm the user interface of your NVR according to the hardware version before checking this guide, refer to Introduction to Hardware Versions of Reolink NVRs.

For Reolink NVRs (New UI)

Below provides step-by-step instructions on how to back up entire recordings, cut and back up specific video footage, and view basic information of a USB flash drive using the NVR system.
Note: Viewing USB drive information is only supported on certain models. Please refer to the applicable models listed in the section below.

How to Back Up the Entire Recordings

Method 1

Applies to: RLN8-410 (hardware version N7MB01) & RLN16-410 (hardware version N6MB01) with firmware v3.6 and later.

Step 1. Insert a properly functioning USB flash drive into the NVR USB port.

Step 2. Right-click on the Live View interface, and then click the Backup button.

Step 3. Choose Cameras, Video Type and Start and End Time depending on your need, then click the Search button.

  • Manual recording refers to the video recorded by clicking the Record icon on the camera live-view page.
  • Alarm means the recordings triggered by the alarm events.
  • Timer refers to the continuous recording of the camera.
  • Visitor refers to the recording triggered by the person who presses the Video Doorbell.

Step 4. You can click the play button button to preview the video and confirm the video clip you need. Then tick the video to select. Then click the Backup button to start the backup process.

Note: If you want to back up MP4 files, tick Back Up MP4 File, or the recordings will be saved in H.264/H.265 format.

Manage the USB Flash Drive and Safe Eject

If you want to view the basic information of your USB drive when you finish the backup, click Management in the Disk Info section.

You can go to the same page by right-clicking on the Live View interface and then clicking the  USB symbol button to find the management page.

In the USB flash disk management interface, the basic information of the USB drive can be viewed, including its partitions, space usage, and file list. It is also possible to format the drive, safely eject it, as well as view and delete files.

Method 2

Applies to: RLN8-410 (hardware version H3MB18/N2MB02/N3MB01), RLN16-410 (hardware version H3MB18), RLN36 and RLN12W.

Step 1. Insert a properly functioning USB flash drive into the NVR USB port.

Step 2. Right-click on the Live View interface, and then click the Backup button.

Step 3. Choose Cameras, Video Type and Start and End Time depending on your need, then click the Search button.

Step 4. Select the recordings you need, and click the Backup button.

Before selecting the recordings, you can click the play button button next to the video to preview and check if the video is the one you want.

Step 5. If you want to back up MP4 files, tick Back Up MP4 File(s), or the recordings will be saved in H.264/H.265 format. Then click Start to start the backup process.

How to Cut and Back Up the Video Footage

Method 1

Applies to: RLN8-410 (hardware version N7MB01) & RLN16-410 (hardware version N6MB01) with firmware v3.6 and later.

Step 1. Insert a properly functioning USB flash drive into the NVR USB port.

Step 2. Right-click on the Live View interface, and then click the Playback button.

Step 3. Choose the Camera/Channel and the Date to search for the recordings, then click the Cut button to cut them.

Step 4. Choose the start time and the end time in the timeline, and click the Save button.

Step 5. If you want to back up MP4 files, click Export to MP4 Format, or the recordings will be saved in H.264/H.265 format. Then click Backup to start the backup process.

Method 2

Applies to: RLN8-410 (hardware version H3MB18/N2MB02/N3MB01), RLN16-410 (hardware version H3MB18), RLN36 and RLN12W.

Step 1. Insert a properly functioning USB flash drive into the NVR USB port.

Step 2. Right-click on the Live View interface, and then click the Playback button.

Step 3. Select the desired camera or channel and specify the date to search for the recordings. Then, click the Cut button to begin trimming.

Step 4. On the timeline, set the start and end times for the clip, and click Save to confirm your selection.

Step 5. To back up the file in MP4 format, choose Back Up MP4 File(s). Finally, click Backup to initiate the backup process.

For Reolink NVRs (Old UI)

Step 1. Insert a properly functioning USB flash drive into the NVR USB port.

Step 2. Log in to your Reolink PoE NVR on the monitor, go to Menu > Search to find the recordings you need. You can refer to How to Search Recordings via Reolink PoE NVR for more details.

Step 3. Click the grid to enter the Playback page. Then activate Cut Cut icon on NVR and click on the playback bar to create the start time and the end time of the video clip.

Step 4. After selecting the video clip, click Backup playback on NVR to download it to your USB flash drive.
