Common IP Ratings

The waterproof ability of a security camera is rated or classified by “IP rating” (Ingress Protection rating), an international standard used to describe the degree of protection provided against intrusion for electrical equipment.

The first digit in the IP rating represents the dust protection level, while the second digit indicates the water protection level. Reolink cameras primarily cover IP64, IP65, IP66, and IP67 protection ratings, all of which have the same dust protection rating “6,” meaning they are completely dustproof, meaning that no dust or dirt can enter the equipment. In terms of water protection:

  • IP67 – Can endure temporary immersion in water up to a depth of 1 meter for 30 minutes, making it suitable for harsher environments with potential submersion risks.
  • IP66 – Can withstand powerful water jets from any direction, ensuring protection against strong rain or directed water spray.
  • IP65 – Offers protection against low-pressure water jets from any direction, making it suitable for outdoor use where exposure to rain or water spray is expected.
  • IP64 – Provides resistance against splashing water from any direction but cannot withstand water jets or immersion.
