Applies to: All Reolink NVRs.
There are 3 ways to expand the capacity of Reolink NVR:
- Add an external HDD via eSATA port (applies to all Reolink NVR).
- Replace the existing HDD for more storage (up to 4TB) (applies to all Reolink NVR).
- Place another HDD inside the NVR (only for RLN16-410 because there is reserved space and plugs inside).
Add an external HDD via eSATA port (applies to all Reolink NVR)
Step 1. Prepare an HDD and a junction cable.
Step 2. Plug HDD to the eSATA port of NVR.
Note: As the eSATA port of Reolink NVR won’t power the HDD on, it needs an additional power supply. Take the pictures as reference:
1.HDD with HDD enclosure. Besides plugging the HDD into the eSATA port of the NVR, don’t forget to plug the power in. Consult your HDD enclosure supplier for guidance if necessary.
If you have HDD with junction line (as the picture shows, SATA end connects to eSATA port, the other one to power supply).
2. HDD with junction line. One end to eSATA port, the other end to the power supply.
Replace the existing HDD for more storage (up to 4TB) (applies to all Reolink NVR).
The existing HDD storage for these models:
Reolink RLN8-410 → 2TB
Reolink RLN16-410 → 3TB
Reolink WiFi NVR → 1TB
The existing HDD inside all Reolink NVRs can be replaced with another HDD with higher capacity (supports up to 4TB). You need to open the NVR box with necessary tools (i.e. screwdriver) very gently and do the replacement.
Steps: Open the NVR(remove 4 screws), find the HDD, replace it with a new one. After that, put those screws back.
Place another HDD inside the NVR (only for RLN16-410 because there is reserved space and plugs inside).
RLN16-410 PoE NVR has a third way to further expand its capacity. There is enough spare space and reserved plugs inside for two 4TB-HDD, which means its maximum capacity can be expanded to a total of 12TB.
Step 1. Prepare a HDD, and open the NVR box gently.
Step 2. Plug the HDD to the exact port on PCB board. Fix the HDD on the base of NVR.
Step 3. Put the screws back on NVR, and restore it back to original state.
For internal extra HDD installation in 16-channel NVR, here are some pictures for reference:
Position 1 is where you can put and fix the extra HDD inside the NVR.
Plug 2 is the SATA plug for the extra HDD.
Plug 3 is the power supply plug for the extra HDD.
We have provided 4 screws that came with the package for the additional HDD installation, as you can see in the picture below. Please make sure those screws are tightened.
The four screws for internal extra HDD installation:
Note: It is important that you make sure the HDD is powered up using the power supply plug. Otherwise, the extra HDD would not work at all.
Then you can close the upper plate of the NVR to finish the installation.
