Note: Currently, an increasing number of email service providers are transitioning to OAuth2 to enhance security measures. For more information: Modern Authentication Methods now needed to continue syncing Outlook Email in non-Microsoft email apps - Microsoft Support. Reolink plans to support this through firmware upgrades, which are still in development.
If the email service provider utilized has fully discontinued App passwords (based on Basic Authentication), users may encounter "Email Test Failed" issues when operating Reolink cameras.
In such cases, it is advisable to refrain from using these providers that have deprecated App passwords, such as Outlook, Hotmail, Live and Yahoo. As of now, Gmail continues to support App passwords, and its use is recommended.
What Is an App password?
Most email services enable the feature of App Password, which are dedicated passwords used for logging into third-party Clients or accessing certain features. Among Reolink's various features, only the Email alert feature requires an App password.
Why Do I Need an App Password?
Instead of providing your email password, setting up an App password can help enhance the privacy and security of the user. If your email service supports this feature, we recommend configuring the email with an App password when using the email alert feature.
