General FAQ for Time Lapse Feature

1. What is time lapse?

Time lapse photography, also known as time lapse video, is a technique that compresses time. The following table we will divide it into three scenarios: camera used standalone, camera connected to Reolink NVR, camera connected to Reolink Home Hub. Please check the information below to understand time lapse feature. For more details, please refer to Introduction to Time Lapse.

Whether related to the camera's own compatibility: refers to when connected to the Reolink Home Hub or NVR whether the camera itself needs to support the Time Lapse feature in order to use it.

1.Connect the camera to the rouer and set up. (Battery-powered cameras are excluded)

2.If you still want to keep the camera connected to the NVR, you can add the camera to the Reolink NVR via LAN.

Conclusion:

  • Camera Standalone Use: Only future events can be recorded in the time lapse.
  • Camera Connected to Reolink NVR: Only existing events can be recorded in the time lapse.
    Exception: By enabling Hybridge mode, you are able to configure both types of time lapse recording on the RLN8-410 N7MB01 and RLN16-410 N6MB01 (Firmware v3.5.1).
  • Reolink Home Hub: If the camera supports the time lapse feature, it will also support this feature when connected to the Home Hub, with the same effect as standalone use.

FAQs About SD Card Time Lapse for Future Events

1. If I set up the time lapse, will it continue capturing after a power outage?

Yes, but it won't record during the power outage.

2. If I change the SD card after the time lapse is set up, will the settings still work?

Yes, the time lapse videos will be continue saved to the new SD card.

3. Does the time lapse work if the Reolink device is not connected to the internet?

Yes. As long as the Reolink device is powered on, the time lapse will function without the internet.

4. Is one-click downloading of images/videos supported?

No. It is not supported.

5. What is the overwrite strategy for the time lapse feature?

Reolink cameras with the time lapse feature have two overwrite switches: one for video recording and one for time lapse. They operate independently, so if the video overwrite switch is on and the time lapse overwrite switch is off, only video files will be overwritten when the SD card is full.

6. If I switch image layouts while the fisheye camera's time lapse is on, will the time lapse still work?

Yes. It will continue recording with the new image layout.
