There are several types of Reolink NVRs, which are Reolink 8 channel NVR, Reolink 16 channel NVR, Reolink 36 channel NVR, Reolink Wi-Fi NVR. This article will elaborate on the factors influencing the number of cameras supported on NVRs and the maximum camera capacities supported by different versions of NVRs.

5. How to Add camera to Reolink NVR

1. What affects the number of cameras on a Reolink NVR?

Channel limitations and power supply limitations.

2. What is the Reolink NVR channel?

Different from the ports on the NVR that connect to the camera, channels refer to the channels/windows presented on the software (APP/Client/Monitor). The number of ports on the NVR that connect to the camera is fixed. Some NVRs can expand the channels by upgrading the firmware. When the ports on the NVR are full, even if there are channels left, you cannot add new cameras, and vice versa.

Note: The port number that the camera connects to and the channel number on the NVR do not correspond to each other.

4. Notes for Special Models

1. Reolink has dual-lenses cameras, some of which require 2 channels of NVR. The Duo series is divided into 1st, 2nd and 3rd generations. The 1st generation camera occupies 2 channels. The specific models involved are Duo (Battery), Duo PoE and Duo WiFi.

Assuming your NVR is RLN8-410 (H3MB18) with 12 channels, you can connect up to 6 Duo (Battery), Duo PoE and Duo WiFi.

2. Reolink has some high-power PoE cameras. When connected to a PoE NVR, the power provided by the NVR is limited, so it is not possible to connect so many cameras as shown in the above table. The models involved are the RLC-423, RLC-823 series, Floodlight PoE/Duo Floodlight PoE. Below is the table for your reference.

RLN8-410

823A/823A 16X/Floodlight PoE/Duo Floodlight PoE cameras ≤ 3

eg. 823A*1+PoE cameras*7
823A*2+PoE cameras*2
823A*3+PoE cameras*0

RLN16-410

823A/823A 16X/Floodlight PoE/DUO Floodlight PoE ≤ 5

eg. 823A*1+PoE cameras*10
823A*2+PoE cameras*8
823A*3+PoE cameras*5
823A*4+PoE cameras*3
823A*5+PoE cameras*0

5. How to Add camera to Reolink NVR

Once you understand how many cameras your NVR can support, you can proceed to set up the cameras with the NVR. Please refer to: How to Add Reolink Cameras to Reolink PoE NVR(New UI)
