Motion mark is a visual indicator that appears on the live view or playback screen when motion is detected. They help users quickly identify moving objects and understand what triggered the alert. This article explains how Motion Mark works and how to enable or adjust related settings on your Reolink camera.

What is the Reolink Motion Boxes/Mark

Motion Boxes (also called Motion Mark in Reolink Client) highlight all potential alarm triggers with blue rectangles during live view or playback in Clear/High mode, helping you analyze events more effectively. Although the feature name may differ across the App, Client, and NVR monitor, they all refer to the same function. See the effect in the image below:

How to Set Up Reolink Motion Boxes/Mark

Preparation Before Setup

Before configuring Motion Boxes/Mark, please:

  1. Switch the stream mode to High/Clear. Reolink Motion Boxes/Mark Only function in High/Clear stream mode. Refer to: How to Change Stream Mode in Live Viewing
    Note: If you don’t find the Motion Boxes option, set the camera to High/Clear Stream mode for a while and check it again.

  2. Firmware and Software Updates. When adding a camera to a Home Hub series device or to NVRs with smart detection, ensure that the Hub and NVR firmware are updated to the latest firmware version. At the same time, make sure the Reolink App/Client is also updated to the latest version, which can be found at the Reolink download center.

Step-by-Step Guide

This feature can only be configured via the Reolink App/Client or a monitor, regardless of whether the camera is added to a Reolink NVR; configuration via web interface is not supported.
When the camera is added to a Home Hub Series, it can only be configured via the Reolink App or desktop client; configuration via the monitor or web interface is not supported.

  • Via Reolink App

    Step 1. Log in to your Reolink camera on the Reolink App. Go to Camera Settings > Display.

    Step 2. Under the Display Settings section, you will find the Motion Boxes feature. Motion Boxes

    Done! The Motion Boxes option is enabled, and then the camera will highlight any person, vehicle, or pet that triggered an alarm with a blue rectangle. When viewing live or playing back footage in Clear Stream mode, you’ll easily see these marked objects, making it simple to identify what triggered the alarm.

  • Via Reolink Client

    Step 1. Open the Reolink Client and log in to your Reolink camera. Go to the Device Settings page.

    Step 2. Under the Device Settings section, click Smart Detection and you will find the Motion Mark feature.

    Done! The Motion Mark option is enabled, and then the camera will highlight any person, vehicle, or pet that triggered an alarm with a blue rectangle. When viewing live or playing back footage in Clear Stream mode, you’ll easily see these marked objects, making it simple to identify what triggered the alarm.

  • Via Reolink NVR (Monitor Connected)

    Step 1.  Connect a TV/monitor to the NVR via an HDMI/VGA cable.

    Step 2. Set it up on the NVR monitor after adding the camera to NVR only. Go to Settings > Camera > Detection Settings.

    Step 3. Enable the Motion Boxes.

    Done! The Motion Mark option is enabled, and then the camera will highlight any person, vehicle, or pet that triggered an alarm with a blue rectangle. When viewing live or playing back footage in Clear Stream mode, you’ll easily see these marked objects, making it simple to identify what triggered the alarm.
