What is HDR and WDR
When the camera has a limited performance within one scene in the areas with the brightest and darkest spots, this effect is often referred to as "dynamic range".
- High Dynamic Range (HDR) is a technology that can improve the brightness and contrast of an image. It introduces a broader range of colors and brightness to the image and presents more details in the image, making the image more vivid under a wide range of lighting conditions.
- Wide Dynamic Range (WDR) improves the camera's image quality under high-contrast lighting conditions with both dimly lit and brightly lit areas in the field of view.
Compared to WDR, HDR improves the overall image quality in terms of contrast, grayscale resolution, and other dimensions for a more immersive and realistic experience.
- It is worth noting that WDR is not an option to switch on and off, but a hardware capability.
- In contrast, HDR is implemented in software. HDR technology combines multiple images with varying exposure times to increase the overall dynamic range, ensuring detailed photos are captured in light and dark scenes. Currently, Reolink ColorX series and Reolink Doorbell Battery can support setting up HDR.
