2. Is it on by default? If not, how can I turn on it?
It is off by default. Existing subscribers (with a valid subscription) will receive a reminder to turn on it.
3. Is it free?
Yes, Advanced Data Protection is free.
4. What happens if I forget my protection code or cannot access my account?
Without the protection code or access to your account, you cannot play back/download the protected cloud library videos.
You can reset the protection code if you forget it. However, videos encrypted by the previous protection code can no longer be played or downloaded (unless you recollect the previous code). Please make sure you keep your protection code safe and reachable.
5. What happens if I forget the protection code, reset it to a new one, and then recall the old code?
After you entered the correct old code, the cloud videos protected with the old code can be played back/downloaded and will be protected with the new code that you've reset.
6. Can I change my protection code?
Yes, you can change the protection code. For example, if the original protection code is code 1, you can change your protection code to code 2 after entering code 1. Videos protected with code 1 will then be protected with code 2.
7. Will all my cloud videos be encrypted once the protection code is set?
No, not all cloud videos will be protected when the protection code is set.
To protect your videos with the code, the following conditions must be met:
1. Advanced Data Protection is turned on in your account.
2. The function of Advanced Data Protection is available on the device's firmware.
3. The device has subscribed to a valid Reolink Cloud plan.
Once the above conditions are met, videos uploaded from the device to Reolink Cloud will be automatically protected with the protection code you set.
Note: Videos uploaded before Advanced Data Protection is turned on will not be protected by the code.
8. Can I turn off Advanced Data Protection?
Yes, you can. Videos uploaded after you turn off Advanced Data Protection will no longer be protected.
When you turn off advanced data protection, the system will ask for the protection code. Once entered, videos that were previously protected will have their protection disabled, allowing direct access without needing to enter the protection code again. However, if you do not enter the code when disabling the feature, you will need to enter it when you want to view the protected videos.
If you had forgotten a code previously (e.g., code 1), and some videos were protected with code 1, but the current code is code 2, then when you turn off the protection and enter code 2, only the videos protected by code 2 will be accessible without needing to re-enter the code. Videos protected by code 1 will still require the original code to be viewed.
