RLA-PS1 has 8 PoE ports (IEEE802.3af/at) and 2 gigabit Ethernet uplink ports, so it could be connected with Reolink cameras and NVRs flexibly. Check out this article to learn how to connect them.

Applies to: RLA-PS1, all Reolink cameras(except battery-powered ones), and NVRs.

Before connection, there are two important principles to be observed:

  • The 2 uplink ports of RLA-PS1 cannot be connected to the downlink ports of NVR and router at the same time.
  • The 8 PoE ports of RLA-PS1 could only be connected to PoE cameras and PoE IoT devices.

Part 1: Connecting cameras to RLA-PS1 without NVR

Step 1. Power on the PoE Switch with the provided power adapter.

Step 2. Plug an Ethernet cable into the uplink port on the PoE Switch, then plug the other end into the downlink port of the router.

Step 3. Use another Ethernet cable to connect your PoE camera's network port to the PoE port on the PoE switch.

Part 2: Connecting cameras and NVRs with RLA-PS1

Method 1: Connect RLA-PS1 to the NVR directly

Step 1. Power on the NVR and connect the NVR LAN port to the router with a network cable.

Step 2. Power on the PoE Switch with provided power adapter. Then use a network cable to connect the uplink port on the PoE Switch to the RJ45 ports of the NVR(for RLN16-410, it has to be port 1 or port 2).

Step 3. Use another Ethernet cable to connect your camera's network port to the PoE port on the PoE switch. If you are connecting a WiFi camera to the PoE switch, you need to power the camera separately with the camera's power adapter.

Note: If you connect them this way, the cameras are under the management of the NVR directly and can't be added to Reolink App/Client alone.

Method 2: Connect RLA-PS1, cameras, and NVR in the same LAN

Step 1. Power on the NVR and use a network cable to connect the NVR LAN port to one of the uplink ports on the PoE  Switch.

Step 2. Power on the PoE Switch with provided power adapter. Then use a network cable to connect another uplink port on the PoE Switch to the router.

Step 3. Use another Ethernet cable to connect your camera's network port to the PoE port on the PoE switch. If you are connecting a WiFi camera to the PoE switch, you need to power the camera separately with the camera's power adapter.

Note: If you connect them this way, the cameras are in LAN with the NVR and they could be added to Reolink App/Client alone. You could add the camera to NVR by adding devices in LAN.
