Both PoE and WiFi video doorbells can get electricity via power cables with the existing doorbell wiring or a power adapter.
Applies to: Video Doorbell PoE, Video Doorbell WiFi
Use Existing Doorbell Wiring
Step 1. Find the existing mechanical chime. Press the button of the existing doorbell and find the chime following the sound.
Note: If the mechanical chime doesn’t work, please contact a qualified electrician.
Step 2. Power off the existing doorbell. Press the doorbell button again and make sure that the chime does not ring.
Note: DO NOT directly connect the video doorbell to the mains. Otherwise, it may cause fires, electric shocks, or other damages or losses. If you are inexperienced in working with electrical wires, please contact a qualified electrician.
Step 3. Make sure that the existing wiring provides sufficient voltage for the video doorbell. A Reolink Video Doorbell works with a voltage of 24V DC or 12-24V AC, 50/60 Hz. If the existing wiring is not applicable to the video doorbell, you need to use the jumper (the black cable in below picture) to bypass the existing chime or use another transformer.
Step 4. Remove the old doorbell button, use the extension cable to extend the wire, then connect with a wire connector.
Step 5. Connect the Reolink Video Doorbell to the wiring. Make sure that the Y-shaped plugs are separate from each other. Otherwise, it may cause a short circuit.
Step 6. Reolink Video Doorbell PoE can only get a network connection through a network cable. To complete the installation of the PoE doorbell, run the network cable through the wall. Plug one end of the network cable into the PoE video doorbell, and the other end into the network device.
For Reolink Video Doorbell WiFi, you can use WiFi or network cable to establish network connection.
Use Power Adapter
You can power Reolink Video Doorbell with a power adapter. Please use a 24 V DC power adapter for the video doorbell.
Step 1. Get a compatible power adapter.
Step 2. Pass the Y-shaped plugs through the wall by the hole drilled for doorbell wires.
Step 3. Connect the Y-shaped plugs to the binding posts on the video doorbell. Make sure that the Y-shaped plugs are separate from each other. Otherwise, it may cause a short circuit.
Step 4.
Note: Reolink provides black Jumper cables and Extension cables. The red wires in the diagrams are for illustration purposes only and do not indicate polarity. Please follow the wiring instructions carefully. The two jumper cables connected to the screws on the back of the video doorbell do not have a specific arrangement requirement. As long as the connections are made correctly, the order of the cables does not matter. Just ensure that the cables are securely attached to the screws for proper functionality.
