When a Reolink doorbell is connected to an existing wired mechanical chime, the chime may produce an unexpected buzzing or humming noise during normal operation. The RLA-PK1 Power Kit is designed to resolve this issue by regulating the current flowing through the mechanical chime circuit, eliminating unwanted noise without affecting the doorbell's normal functionality.

Applies to: Reolink Video Doorbell (Battery), D340B and Reolink Video Doorbell SE.

This guide walks you through the complete installation process of the RLA-PK1 Power Kit.

Step-by-Step Installation Guide

Step 1. Locate Your Mechanical Chime

Find the wired mechanical chime installed in your home. Use a screwdriver to remove the cover of the mechanical chime to expose its internal terminals.

Step 2. Identify the Doorbell Terminals

Inside the chime, locate the terminals that connect to the doorbell. These are typically labeled "Trans" (Transformer) and "Front" on the terminal block, as illustrated below:

  • Trans — Connected to the transformer powering the doorbell system
  • Front — Connected to the front doorbell

Step 3. Connect the Power Kit

Connect the two leads of the RLA-PK1 Power Kit to the Trans and Front terminals on the mechanical chime. The Power Kit is non-polarized, meaning either lead can go to either terminal.

Step 4. Secure the Power Kit

Place the Power Kit module in a suitable position inside the chime housing. The recommended placement is to attach it to the inner wall of the chime enclosure using the built-in adhesive backing, ensuring it does not interfere with the chime's mechanical components.

Step 5. Replace the Cover

Carefully put the chime cover back on and secure it with the screws removed in Step 1.

Step 6. Verify the Installation

Press the doorbell button to trigger the chime and confirm the following:

  • The mechanical chime rings normally when the doorbell is pressed
  • No buzzing, humming, or other abnormal noise is present during standby

If the buzzing persists, double-check the wiring connections at the Trans and Front terminals to ensure both Power Kit leads are firmly secured.
