There are several types of Reolink NVRs, which are the Reolink 4-channel NVR, Reolink 8-channel NVR, Reolink 16-channel NVR, Reolink 36-channel NVR, Reolink 64-channel NVR, and Reolink Wi-Fi NVR. This article will elaborate on the factors influencing the number of cameras supported on NVRs and the maximum camera capacities supported by different versions of NVRs.

5. How to Add camera to Reolink NVR
1. What affects the number of cameras on a Reolink NVR?
- Number of NVR channels
- Maximum total power supported by the NVR (applies only to PoE NVRs)
- Length of the network cables used (applies only to PoE cameras and PoE NVRs)
- Cameras' power consumption and resolution
- NVR’s bandwidth and storage.
2. What is the Reolink NVR channel?
Different from the ports on the NVR that connect to the camera, channels refer to the channels/windows presented on the software (APP/Client/Monitor). The number of physical ports on the NVR is fixed. However, some NVRs can expand the number of supported channels by upgrading the firmware.
Note: The port number that the camera connects to and the channel number on the NVR do not correspond to each other.

4. Notes for Special Models
1. Reolink has dual-lens cameras: some of which require 2 channels of NVR. The Duo series is divided into 1st, 2nd and 3rd generations. The 1st generation camera occupies 2 channels. The specific models involved are Duo PoE and Duo WiFi.
Assuming your NVR is RLN8-410 (H3MB18) with 12 channels, you can connect up to 6 Duo PoE and Duo WiFi.
2. Reolink has some high-power PoE cameras: some Reolink cameras (including OMVI Series, Floodlight PoE/Duo Floodlight PoE, RLC-823A, RLC-823A 16X, RLC-823S1, RLC-823S1W, RLC-823S2, RLC-423) are high-power PoE devices. The NVR has a fixed total power budget. When high-power cameras are added, they consume more power, which may reduce the total number of cameras you can connect to the NVR.
To avoid limiting the number of cameras supported by your NVR, you can provide additional power to these cameras using a power adapter, PoE switch, or PoE injector.
3. The table below shows the maximum number of PoE cameras of the same model that can be directly connected to the NVR. If you have any questions about the connection capacity, please contact support for assistance.
The data in the table below is based on the following requirements:
-
When calculating the PoE power supply, in addition to the camera's own power consumption, the power loss caused by the network cable must also be taken into account. The longer the network cable, the greater the power loss. Therefore, we recommend using a standard CAT5e or higher network cable whenever possible.
The number of cameras that can be connected, calculated below, is based on the use of a 50 m CAT5e network cable. If the network cable is too long or does not meet the required standards, the increased power loss may result in insufficient power supply, causing the cameras to disconnect, restart, or experience other abnormal behavior.
- The NVR firmware must be upgraded to v3.6.5 or later. If your NVR is not running firmware version v3.6.5 or later, it will not support the data listed below.
